Free Flight Film Fest Coming to Telluride, May 31

Hangliding and paragliding are the focus of a new film festival coming to Telluride: the Telluride Free Flight Film Festival.

Get ready for truly exciting footage of people getting big air, so to speak, as they fly across mountain ranges and desert regions.

The festival and a fundraiser will be held at the historic Sheridan Opera House on Friday, May 31 at 7 pm, doors and silent auction open at 6 pm.

This film festival has a serious purpose to it: fundraising.

The event is being put on by the Telluride Air Force, a group of local flyers dedicated to taking guests and friends on flights in the Telluride area.

"For over 50 years, the Telluride Air Force has been a distinct feature of the Telluride community, delighting locals and tourists alike as they hang glide and paraglide in the skies above town," notes the Telluride Airforce website. "Until recently, the club was a member-sustained nonprofit, but recent insurance hikes have made the financial future of the club tenuous without outside support."

The festival will feature "films showcasing hang gliding, paragliding, speed-riding, and hike-and-fly adventures in San Juan Mountains and beyond. In addition to awesome content from local pilots, former X-Alps competitor and National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Nominee Gavin McClurg will be on hand to introduce films showcasing his adventures in the Rockies, the Alaska Range, and the Alps."
