TELFORD, Tenn. (WJHL) — A triple-calving is widely known to be a rarity in cattle. Kathy and Kenny Woods of Telford recently discovered one of their heifers had birthed triplets, and allowed News Channel 11 on their farm to see them.

The Woods own the farm and raise beef cattle, and said they’ve seen twin calf births before in their herd, but never triplets. The pair added that they are taking shifts feeding the calves, as mothers to multiple calves often cannot produce enough milk to feed them all.

“You can buy what they call a milk replacement at your local place, Tractor Supply, CO-OP,” Kenny said. “It’s a formula you mix up, and some people raise baby calves for a living. Which we have before. But with this, we’re raising [them] just to help her out. Also got alfalfa hay and a 16% dairy feed that we feed to help get more milk out of her.”
