Cherokee County Students Named Winners of Local Essay Contest
Two elementary school students in Cherokee County are among the winners of Delta Community Credit Union’s 2024 Youth Essay Contest, the credit union announced. Noah Davis, a fourth grader from Hickory Flat Elementary School, and Nevaeh Agnew, a fifth grader from Oak Grove Elementary School STEAM Academy, were among 21 winners selected. Early morning fire kills two in Jasper after neighbors hear loud explosion
JASPER, Ga. - Two people died in a house fire in Jasper early Monday morning. "They’ve lost everything," said neighbor Wanda O'Bryant. "Everything, in 20 minutes." The fire department got a call just before 7:48 a.m. on Oakmont Drive. He said his first crews were on the scene by 7:50 a.m., Jasper Fire Chief John Sherrer III said in a news release.

The Cherokee County School District’s proposed $923 million budget for 2024-25 includes raises for teachers and other district employees, as well as investments in school construction projects, Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis announced.
