SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A special ceremony took place on Thursday, May 16, outside the Onondaga County Justice Center to honor Lieutenant Michael Hoosock.

It’s been just over a month since Hoosock was killed in the line of duty along with Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office also retired Hoosock’s badge and call sign.

“We’re going to retire Hootch’s call sign 45L2, we’re going to retire Hootch’s badge number 1703, but we’re never going to retire Hootch’s memory,” Onondaga County Sheriff Toby Shelley said at the memorial.

The Syracuse Police Department did the same for Officer Michael Jensen on Monday, May 13.

The annual memorial service honoring deputy sheriffs also honors fallen firefighters. Lt. Hoosock was an active member of the Moyer’s Corners Fire Department as a firefighter and a paramedic.

“It’s a sad day for us because we lost such an all-around person that was so important to the community,” Rick Nemier, a past president of the Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, said. “Unfortunately, he passed away, but he gave his life for his community and for the fire services, and we thank him for that.”
