Community members cheer, reminisce during UT Homecoming Parade
Amy Kanney stood on West Bancroft Street not only enjoying the University of Toledo’s Homecoming Parade but also reminiscing about how she met her husband. She watched the Rocket Marching Band with her daughter Elise, 9, remembering her time as a student majoring in English and the memories she made with the man whom she would be married to 15 years and two children later. PHOTO GALLERY: University of Toledo Homecoming Parade “We met through friends in the band and then started dating in the off-season,” said Mrs. Kanney, a Northwood resident. “Our first season in the band together, I don’t think we necessarily knew of each other [and] we didn’t know each other super well. ... A Toledo native’s book about a Alfred “Weird Al” Yankovic album is set to be released Nov. 12. Culture Clash Records is taking pre-orders for signed copies of Weird Al Yankovic in 3-D by Justin Remer. The book dives into each parody song in the 1984 album of the same title. Mr. Remer pitched to the series five times with books on Paul McCartney and anti-folk group the Moldy Peaches, before settling on Weird Al. He was accepted in 2024 to write for the series of short books on albums. The author, who is now a bookseller in Los Angeles, interviewed Yankovic himself as well as drummer Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz. Mr. Yankovic is set to perform in Toledo Saturday at the Huntington Center. Mr. Remer said exclusive stickers and bookmarks illustrated by Marvel and DC comics artist Sina Grace will accompany all copies purchased through Culture Clash.
