Sagamore Bridge plan adds two bike, pedestrian railroad crossings
Two new railroad crossings are planned on the south side of the Cape Cod Canal to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety as part of the new $2.1 billion Sagamore Bridge construction plans . The state will hold a hearing on the proposal on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Bourne. Along the canal's south side is a 6 1/2-mile paved service road that is also a bicycle and walking trail . Parallel to the service road are railroad tracks, and south of the tracks are neighborhoods and main roadways. Currently, pedestrians and bicyclists cross the railroad tracks at informal or unauthorized locations that lack appropriate safety protections, according to the state Department of Transportation. The hearing will be held with MassDOT staff and the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners. MassDOT requested the hearing so the county board can determine whether the proposed crossings “should be required as public necessity and convenience,” according to the county notice. The purpose of the new crossings is to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, accessibility and connections to the Cape Cod Canal South Service Road, according to the notice. The proposed crossings would be at Mid-Cape Connector at Sandwich Road and Keith Field Recreation Area, at

The five-story structure, which opened in 1992 and holds 948 parking spaces, has been partially closed since 2022 over safety concerns, with only about 350 spaces currently available for use.

This decision has caused an incredible amount of internal conflict for me, I don't think it's the right choice."

Council vote clears way for traffic light at new Overlook Ridge intersection
The creation of new traffic patterns at the Overlook Ridge development on the Revere-Malden line have been decades in the making. Last week, the Revere City Council approved the proposed layout of a parcel of Overlook Ridge Drive that will allow developers to move the entrance of the development on Overlook Ridge Drive at Salem Street. The new entrance would also include a new traffic signal at the drive and Salem Street. In addition, developers stated that the current entrance would be closed off, with a portion of the parcel used for commercial development.
