    Hidalgo named to honor society

    TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Erin Hidalgo of Sulphur was recently recognized during the Tapping on the Mound ceremony at The University of Alabama.

    As a part of the ceremony, several students were inducted into the Mortar Board National Honor Society.

    Mortar Board, a national honor society for men and women, is based on leadership, scholarship and service. It is one of the highest honors that can be granted to seniors. Members must display outstanding dedication to service and leadership.

    Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for superior achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. UA’s Hypatia Chapter is one of the oldest chapters in the nation.

    Mire wins $1,000 scholarship

    Hailey Mire , daughter of First Federal Bank of Louisiana Senior Vice President/Business Banking Manager Eric Mire, was the recipient of $1,000 in scholarship funds as part of the Louisiana Bankers Association’s First Time College Freshmen Scholarship.

    The scholarship was presented to Hailey by First Federal Bank of Louisiana Senior Vice President/Director of Human Resources and Louisiana Bankers Education Council Immediate Past President Mallie Bowers. LBEC is housed under LBA.

    To receive this scholarship, one of the student’s parents must be employed by a LBA member bank in Louisiana, and the student must be enrolling in a Louisiana college or university as a first time, full-time student with a major in a banking-related field, such as management, accounting, marketing, or business administration.

    Reeves honored as Who’s Who

    UNIVERSITY, Miss. — Olivia Reeves of Sulphur has been recognized in the 2023-24 class of Who’s Who Among Students at the University of Mississippi.

    Reeves was among 201 Ole Miss students who were honored with the distinction during a ceremony on April 5 at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.

    Who’s Who Among Students is a respected honor program recognizing seniors who excel academically and demonstrate leadership and community service on and off campus.

    Reeves is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in integrated marketing communications.

    Litteral earns scholarship

    American Airlines recently awarded Chloe Litteral of Lake Charles a $5,000 scholarship at the recent Women in Aviation International (WAI) conference held in Orlando.

    The scholarship will help the aerospace engineering major complete her studies at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach, Fla. campus) and pursue her dream of becoming an astronaut and commander of a flight into space.

    American Airlines, a leading sponsor of the WAI conference, actively invests in programs that create awareness and access to career opportunities in aviation to empower and inspire potential aviators, particularly those who might not have otherwise considered a career in the field.

    Four presented Gold Apple pins

    NATCHITOCHES — Northwestern State University’s Gallaspy College of Education and Human Development hosted a Gold Apple pinning ceremony for senior students who will graduate this semester with bachelor’s degrees in education and begin their career as educators.

    Among those recognized were local students Jenna Pottmeyer of Dry Creek, Peighton Rhodes of Hornbeck, Tyler White of DeRidder and Hunter James of Rosepine.
