Local attorney celebrates 50 years of practice

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local attorney got a special surprise at the Sullivan Civic Center.

Doug Followell of Sullivan was shocked when he entered the building to a large crowd of friends and family. The surprise happened to be a party for him to celebrate his 50 years in practice. Many people spoke on their fond memories, but Followell says he had no idea it was coming.

“I can’t believe they pulled this off,” he said. “I thought it was a township fire department meeting. I was with the mayor all day yesterday and we went to the race track and had a big time up there. We went up into the pagoda and had a really good time and he kept talking about the township fire department.”

It was an emotional day for Followell, as everyone shared memories while enjoying a personalized cake and refreshments. Everyone was in on the surprise, and it took a team effort to execute the plan.
