    Sturgis tennis beats visiting Three Rivers

    STURGIS — The Sturgis tennis team completed a sweep of visiting Three Rivers at Augspurger Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

    Sturgis improved to 6-4-1 on the season in dual matchups with the 8-0 victory over the Wildcats. Sturgis now has piled up a record of 5-2 in Wolverine Conference dual matchups.

    The Lady Trojans won all eight flights on Wednesday in straight sets.

    Rylee Carver beat Arabella Mangold at first singles (6-2, 6-3) and Gracie Perry picked up a win over Lily Zabonick (6-0, 6-0) at second singles. Katherine Steele's win over Angeleena Ham came by a score of 6-1, 6-1 in third singles action while Ava Stewart beat Natalie Moore (6-1, 6-0) at fourth singles.

    Johanna Rooyakkers and Bella Currier beat Maggie Gose and Jayna Larson (6-3, 6-3) in first doubles action. Chloe Clark and Arianna Terwedo also won their matchup at second doubles, picking up a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Lilah Zabonick and Lucy Olson.

    Nghi Ngo and Katelyn Halling earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hailey Grubbs at Soreeya Hoeung at third doubles. In the fourth doubles match, Mya Eicher and Hannah Ritchie won over Alyssa Jimenez and Kenzie Rennie by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

    Sturgis won the junior varsity match, 3-0. Stella Barry and Marlee Smith won their match at first doubles, 8-1. In first singles action, Johanna Weiss won 8-1. Barry and Smith won a second match as well, 8-0.

    On Monday, the Trojans fell to St. Joseph 7-1. Earning a win on the day was third doubles as Ngo and Halling won 7-5, 6-4.

    On Saturday, Sturgis played at the Portland Invitational. The Trojans beat Portland 6-2 and tied Mason 4-4.

    Against Mason, Steele won her match 6-2, 6-3 at third singles and Stewart won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles.

    Ngo and Halling picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory at third doubles and the fourth doubles team of Eicher and Ritchie won in three sets at 6-4, 4-6 and 6-4.

    Perry (6-4, 6-1), Steele (6-3, 6-3) and Stewart (6-3, 6-1) all won against Portland in singles action.

    Sturgis won at second doubles with Terwedo/Clark at 7-5, 2-6, 6-0. Ngo and Halling won at third doubles 6-1, 6-1 and Ritchie/Eicher picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at fourth doubles.

    The junior varsity team picked up a conference championship as well. The team secured three first-place flight wins, four second places and one third place.

    SMITL Championships

    The Bronson tennis team finished second at the SMITL Championships held on Monday to Brooklyn Columbia Central.

    Bronson had one flight champion as Aleah Brackett won at second singles. Cheyanna Villasan was the runner-up at first singles.

    Aubree Wyant (third singles) and Hailey Francrom (fourth singles) each finished in third place.

    The first doubles team of Sienna Mclatcher and Ella Ramsey finished as runners-up.
