North Stokes falls 28-22 to South Davidson
DANBURY — North Stokes led by two points with five minutes to play. Then South Davidson’s Myles Scercy took a punt 67 yards for a touchdown, and the Vikings ran out of time on the Wildcats’ 18-yard line in a 28-22 loss in a Greater Triad 1A/2A Conference game Oct. 23. North Stokes (0-9 overall, 0-5 conference) outgained South Davidson (6-3, 3-2) 338 yards to 278 and held the ball for 25 minutes, 14 seconds. It still couldn’t hold on. “We were in control, up 22-20, with the ball at our own 47 and five minutes to play,” Vikings coach Kolt Bullington said. “We just needed a few first downs. Instead, we went three-and-out, they took the punt back for the score and then added the two-pointer. In one sequence, the whole game flipped. That was the momentum swing.” Scercy returned Nate Harrison’s 22-yard punt for the score with 3:16 left. Seth Snider caught the two-point conversion, putting South Davidson up 28-22. Scercy also ran 23 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns, and the Wildcats piled up 227 yards on 41 carries. The Vikings still had a chance. North Stokes forced a three-and-out, then took over at its own

West Stokes clinches Northwest 3A/4A title with 49-14 rout of North Surry
KING — West Stokes rolled to its fifth conference championship, and its first since 2019, with a 49-14 win over North Surry on Friday night in a Northwest 3A/4A Conference game that was the My48 Game of the Week and aired on local TV. The Wildcats (7-3, 5-0) have now won four straight games under a running clock, against Forbush, Mount Airy, East Surry and North Surry. The win, combined with Surry Central’s forfeit of next week’s game, clinched the outright title. The Golden Eagles shut down their varsity season because of injuries and low numbers. It is the sixth conference championship in 13 years as a head coach for West Stokes’ Trent Lowman. “We are proud of them, and appreciate that they trusted us as coaches,” Lowman said. “They’ve done a great job.” Lowman said the players’ self-policing has changed what the staff can do. “We’re not coaching effort and accountability, and we haven’t in probably two months, because they’re taking care of that part themselves, and we’re getting to coach football,” Lowman said. “When you get to do that, you get to coach football at a deeper level. They trust us, we trust them, they are doing everything
