Newburgh school board proposes reduced budget ahead of revote
NEWBURGH- After its initial budget was defeated by just 95 votes on May 21st, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education worked with district administration to craft a revised budget proposal that will be considered by voters on June 18th. Newburgh’s school budget was the only Orange County school budget to fail this year.
Irvington High School Science Research Students Earn Awards
Twenty-seven members of Irvington High School’s Science Research program competed at the Somers Science Fair on June 1, and six walked away with first place honors. Irvington competed against more than 700 students from across Westchester County at the poster competition, where first-year science research students presented their proposed research.
Lakeland Students Earn Metro Noms for ‘Chicago’
YORKTOWN, N.Y. — Members of Lakeland High School’s theater program are up for a number of Metro Awards, which highlight the “exceptional musical theater productions, talented actors and actresses and devoted creative teams” in high schools every spring. This spring’s production of “Chicago Teen Edition” earned several nominations. Those up for awards include the Lakeland High School Student Orchestra, student pit musician Jesse Ehrenreich (tuba and bass), Lily Wallace for her dance as the character Liz, and Sebastian Goldstein for his leading role as Billy Flynn. Goldstein was also nominated for a Roger Rees Award for outstanding performance in a musical.
