UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) — To help prepare for the upcoming unveiling of the new Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State, volunteers have been working hard to beautify the space with plants.

On May 7, the arboretum invited volunteers from around the State College to help plant flowers and bushes around the perimeter of the museum. They have been working quickly since the Palmer Museum of Art is set to open June 1.

“We’re seeing a lot of improvements in the landscape already,” Aubrey Tallon, volunteer program director at the Penn State Arboretum, said.

The flowers act as a pretty addition to the space along with connecting it more with nature.

“It’s already a really natural marriage of that culture and art and nature,” Tallon said.

Each day has seen 20-30 volunteers helping out with the project. The effort put forth by the participants is appreciated by the arboretum.

“We’re very appreciative of the engagement that they’ve shown us so far and their interest in coming out,” Tallon said.
