1 person dead in Taylor County farming accident
TOWN OF JUMP RIVER, Wis. (WSAW) - A 71-year-old Gilman man is dead after a farming accident Sunday afternoon in Taylor County. According to a press release, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a man trapped under a manure spreader near Hwy 73 in the town of Jump River. When emergency crews arrived, they were able to remove Myron Brooks from underneath the manure spreader. Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene.

Woman arrested for pointing stolen gun at another person
CHIPPEWA FALLS — An 18-year-old woman has been arrested on possible charges of receiving a stolen firearm and pointing it at another person. Destiny Rhodes, who is listed as homeless, appeared for a bond hearing Thursday in Chippewa County Court on possible charges of receiving stolen property, endangering safety by pointing the firearm at another, and disorderly conduct. Judge Benjamin Lane set a $100 cash bond, which she did not immediately post. Lane set a return court date for May 28. If Rhodes posts bond, she cannot possess or use firearms and cannot have any contact with the victim, the victim’s family or the victim’s residence. The Chippewa Falls Police Department was the arresting agency. No police report of the incident was immediately available.
Town of Thorp Board postpones decision to name contractor
At the April 10 Town of Thorp board meeting, the Board voted to delay choosing a contractor for the new town hall and shop until the annual meeting on Tuesday, April 16. Henry Berry of Ratsch Engineering explained to the board members that lowest bidder James Hickman of Hickman Buildings has references and meets the requirements of the bid documents. Residents in attendance questioned if Hickman had the experience necessary for the job specifically for commercial building construction.
