Congressman Richard Neal to visit Springfield on Sunday

According to the City of Springfield, The club, which opened back in 1880, was awarded funding through the Sarno administration’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Outdoor Dining Program that was administered by the Office of Planning & Economic Development (OPED).

The program was offering grants between the amounts of $25,000 and $250,000 towards creating new spaces or rehabilitation of existing spaces for outdoor dining. The club was awarded $250,000 towards the creation of their new outdoor dining pavilion during the 12th round of the ARPA funding.

Mayor Domenic Sarno will be joined by Congressman Richard Neal for a grand opening ceremony of the pavilion at 2:30 p.m. at the John Boyle O’Reilly Club on Progress Street.

“John Boyle O`Reilly was a great Irish patriot and a great American patriot as well,” expressed Congressman Richard Neal of Massachusetts, “Honoring his memory here today at a club that’s been around since 1880, it’s pretty remarkable.”

Mayor Sarno states, “Congratulations to the iconic John Boyle O’Reilly Club on the grand opening of their brand-new outdoor pavilion. This is a wonderful addition to a great club. The JBO is such a staple for our Irish community, and our Springfield community as a whole. I am excited to see the finished results of this project and proud of my administration for the continued efforts in supporting small businesses, new businesses, and non-profits to not only help these establishments survive and stabilize during the COVID-19 pandemic but now to thrive.”
