    Jacksonville advances to regional title game, plus other 3A softball/baseball regional results

    Here are the Class 3A baseball and softball regional results around Springfield from Tuesday and Wednesday:

    Wednesday’s results

    BASEBALL

    CLASS 3A

    NO. 2 JACKSONVILLE 4, NO. 7 SOUTHEAST 3: At Jacksonville, the Crimsons got outhit 10-1, but broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to reach the regional title game.

    Jacksonville (20-13) will play third seed Rochester (20-13) for the championship at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    Hayden Hicks walked with the bases full, and Nolan Peters hit a sacrifice fly to give Jacksonville a 3-1 lead in the fifth. Nolan Decker then stole home as the Crimsons went up by three runs.

    Southeast attempted a comeback in the seventh when Brayden Twist (2-for-4) came up with a two-run single to get the Spartans within 4-3 with two outs. But with runners on first and second, Braxton Twist grounded out to end the game.

    Jaxon Cook (2-for-3) had an RBI double and Tim Herrington went 3-for-4 with two runs as Southeast ended the season 11-20.

    Losing pitcher Carter Murphy went six innings and allowed one hit — a double to Ryan Luconic in the fifth. Murphy struck out six, walked seven and gave up four runs, three earned.

    Winning pitcher Cody Fry struck out eight, walked two and gave up six hits and one earned run in five innings. Luconic pitched the final two innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts and one walk.

    NO. 3 ROCHESTER 6, VS. NO. 6 TAYLORVILLE 0: At Jacksonville, three Rochester pitchers combined for nine strikeouts and completed a four-hit shutout as the Rockets moved on to the regional title game.

    Winning pitcher Adan Nieves threw four innings, striking out five and walking two while allowing two hits. Ajay Runkel tossed 1 2/3 and Eli Carlson pitched 1 1/3 innings.

    Runkel and Parker Gillespie (2-for-3) both had RBI singles in the first and fourth innings, respectively. Rochester blew it open in the fifth with four runs.

    Jett Myren bunted in a run and Runkel and Parker Lyons each had an RBI sacrifice fly. Jorey Myren recorded an RBI double in the inning. Jack Swaney went 2-for-4 and scored twice for the Rockets.

    NO. 5 MOUNT ZION 1, NO. 4 SPRINGFIELD HIGH 0: At Chatham, pitcher Sammy Driscoll limited Springfield High to two hits and he drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning as the Braves edged the Senators in the regional semifinals.

    Driscoll struck out seven and walked one in the complete-game effort. Aiden Weaver started Mount Zion’s seventh with a single and Driscoll drove him in with an RBI double.

    Enrico Veech suffered the loss for Springfield, which ended the season. Veech allowed two hits and one earned run with four strikeouts and three walks. Brody Scheffler, Seth Impson and Sam Hartl also pitched for the Senators.

    Impson and Ethan Rutter each had a hit for Springfield (15-17).

    NO. 1 CHATHAM GLENWOOD 10, NO 8 DECATUR MACARTHUR 0 (5 innings): At Chatham, Krayton Reincke provided Caleb Chamberlain and the rest of the Titans’ pitching staff enough offense in just the first inning before Glenwood went on to win its regional semifinal matchup.

    Reincke hit a two-run single to right field to give the Titans (29-5) a 2-0 lead. Glenwood took control with a five-run second inning, which included a two-run triple from Joe Anderson and a two-run home run from Cru Erickson. Glenwood had seven batters reach before recording an out in the second.

    Anderson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs from the leadoff spot while Erickson was 2-for-3.

    Chamberlain got the win with five strikeouts in two innings pitched. Alex Chopra and Andrew Wahlbrink combined to fan eight Generals in the other three innings in relief.

    Glenwood will face No. 5 Mount Zion (14-13-1) for the regional championship at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

    NO. 1 LINCOLN 10, NO. 8 URBANA 0 (5 innings): At Lincoln, the Railsplitters scored six runs off three Urbana errors to take the regional semifinal matchup.

    Carson Fuiten struck out three in a complete-game shutout. He allowed two hits and one walk.

    Lincoln’s leadoff hitter Colbie Glenn, who led off the Railers’ first inning with a hit by pitch, finished with a pair of RBIs. Karson Komnick was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Brenden Wurth had two hits, including a triple, and Jarrett Evers belted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

    Lincoln (23-10) will face the winner of Thursday’s semifinal game between No. 4 Champaign Central and No. 5 Champaign Centennial for the regional championship game on Saturday at 11 a.m.

    SOFTBALL

    CLASS 3A

    NO. 5 LINCOLN 7, NO. 3 MORTON 6: At Bloomington, the Railsplitters rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth inning and came back to upset the higher seed Potters in the regional semifinals.

    Lincoln plays No. 2 seed Washington for the regional championship at 4 p.m. on Friday. Washington defeated No. 6 Bloomington 5-2 in the semis.

    Lincoln, which trailed 6-4 entering the sixth, did not record a hit in its three-run inning. The Railers took advantage of a walk, an error and a hit by pitch to load the bases with no outs. Regan Kutz then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Kelsey Marten had an RBI groundout to tie the game at six apiece. Grey Gilbert scored on a wild pitch to give Lincoln a 7-6 lead.

    Winning pitcher Madisen Wurth finished off the game by throwing 5 2/3 innings. Wurth struck out five, walked four and gave up four hits and four runs (three earned).

    Leadoff hitter Taryn Stoltzenburg went 2-for-3 with three runs and Kutz and Marten drove in two runs apiece. Gilbert had an RBI single in the first and Morgan Sheley singled in a run in the fifth for Lincoln (15-21).

    Kate Cantwell went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Morton.

    Tuesday's results

    SOFTBALL

    NO. 3 SPRINGFIELD 5, NO. 5 TAYLORVILLE 3: At Rochester, the Senators built a five-run lead and held off the Tornadoes to advance to the regional title game.

    Springfield High (17-6) plays No. 2 seed Rochester (22-7) for the regional championship at 4 p.m. on Friday.

    Winning pitcher Mia Volpert helped her own cause by hitting a solo home run to start the bottom of the first inning.

    The Senators added three runs in the third when Kendall Knauer had a two-run single, and she scored on a wild pitch for a four-run lead. Knauer, who finished 3-for-3, doubled in a run in the fifth as Springfield led 5-0.

    Taylorville (6-21) broke through and attempted a comeback in the sixth when Livia Havera had a two-run double, and Aubrey Kietzman followed with a run-scoring triple to get the Tornadoes within 5-3 after six.

    Taylorville’s Reece Brockelsby started the seventh with a single but was thrown out trying to steal second for the first out. Peyton DeMichael then walked and was stranded at third as Volpert got out of trouble and recorded the final two outs for the win.

    Volpert passed 600 career strikeouts, fanning 10, walking one and giving up eight hits and three earned runs.

    NO. 1 CHATHAM GLENWOOD 16, NO. 8 SOUTHEAST 0 (4 innings): At Chatham, Cassandra Feld drove in four runs in Glenwood’s 11-run first inning and the Titans advanced to the regional finals.

    Top-seeded Glenwood (26-5) will play fourth seed Jacksonville (9-16) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday for the title. Jacksonville won by forfeit over No. 7 seed Lanphier, which reported a lack of players.

    Cassandra Feld gave Glenwood a 3-0 lead with a three-run triple in the first as the Titans batted around. She ended the inning with a solo home run. Mollie Cascio tripled and scored twice, and Ryleigh Kiel had a three-bagger and drove in a run.

    Pitchers Irie Lohrenz, Alyvia Streb and Carlyann Feld combined for 11 strikeouts, no walks and threw a one-hitter.

    NO. 2 ROCHESTER 15, NO. 6 DECATUR MACARTHUR 0 (4 innings): At Rochester, winning pitcher Jaelyn Watts and Eleanor Schudel had two hits apiece and three RBIs each as the Rockets moved on to the title game.

    Watts struck out 10, walked three and gave up two hits. Mylie Deatherage started the scoring for Rochester when she smacked a two-run home run in the first inning.

    Watts tripled in a run in Glenwood’s four-run second inning. She had a two-run single in the third, and Raegan Rezba delivered a two-run double and Schudel contributed a three-run triple as Rochester scored nine in the frame.

    Peyton Purves stole three bases and finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Brooklyn Thompson had two hits, an RBI and scored twice.
