Baseball roundup: Veach, Hartl lead SHS past Southeast plus other Monday and Tuesday results

Here are the high school baseball results around Springfield for Monday and Tuesday:

Tuesday's results

SPRINGFIELD HIGH 12, SOUTHEAST 0 (5 innings): At Eisenhower Park, Enrico Veach and Sam Hartl had three hits each and two Springfield pitchers shut down the Spartans in a Central State Eight Conference game.

Springfield led 3-0 after one inning when Veach (3-for-3, four runs) tripled to right field and scored on an error. Hartl (3-for-3) then hit a two-run double with two outs.

The Senators (11-7 overall, 6-1 in the CS8) scored four more runs in the second and third innings each. Veach belted a solo home run, Ethan Rutter had an RBI single and A.J. Ozier drove in two runs with a single for a 7-0 lead.

Seth Impson (2-for-2, three RBIs) highlighted Springfield’s third inning with a three-run double. Impson was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit in four innings while striking out six and walking two. Jeffrey Sturm struck out two and gave up a hit in one relief inning.

Carter Murphy and Tristan Grant each had a hit for Southeast (7-11, 3-3).

AUBURN 6, RIVERTON 3: At Riverton, the Trojans struck for four runs in the top of the first inning and notched a Sangamo Conference victory.

Jed Ferguson (2-for-3, run) doubled in a run for Auburn’s first run, and he later scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0. Peyton Campbell ended with two doubles and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Cooper Carter threw a one-hit shutout through five innings and had an RBI single in the sixth. Carter struck out eight, walked three, and went 2-for-4 with a run. Evan Kessler worked the final two innings, allowing two hits and three unearned runs to go with three strikeouts and one walk.

Ethen Bates had a double and drove in two runs for Riverton.

PLEASANT PLAINS 16, NEW BERLIN 0 (4 innings): At New Berlin, Owen Johnson and Drew Green got the Cardinals off to a fast start in a Sangamo Conference win.

Johnson, who finished 3-for-4 with three runs, had a two-run single and Green drilled an RBI double to give Plains a 3-0 lead after one inning. Green finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Cooper Schallenberg collected two hits, scored three times and drove in two runs.

Winning pitcher Grady Grisham earned the win, striking out five and walking none in two innings. Schallenberg, in relief, fanned three and walked zero in two innings.

Gannon Dodd and Lucas Bixby accounted for New Berlin’s offense with two hits apiece.

PAWNEE 8, GREENFIELD 6: At Greenfield, Pawnee scored four runs in the fourth inning and held on for a nonconference win.

Hunter Barber smacked a three-run home run in Pawnee’s four-run fourth to give PHS a 7-1 lead. Winning pitcher Tyler Surber went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, while Nick Rice had a hit, walked twice and scored four times for Pawnee.

Surber went the distance, giving up 10 hits and six earned runs. He struck out three and walked one.

Monday's results

PLEASANT PLAINS 9, AUBURN 8: At Auburn, Adam Green scored the go-ahead run following a Trager Shultz single and an error by the Trojans in the seventh inning.

Shultz added the insurance run on a Charlie Severino RBI single.

Severino totaled three hits with two RBIs and two runs. Grady Grisham and Shultz each had three hits as well. Adam and Drew Green each delivered two hits while Cooper Schallenberg had a hit with two RBIs and a run.

Sean Lowder picked up the win in four innings. He struck out four and gave up four earned runs on seven hits and no walks.

Cooper Carter and Peyton Campbell each had two hits and two RBIs for Auburn. That included a dinger by Campbell. Evan Kessler had two doubles and two runs.

NEW BERLIN 12, PETERSBURG PORTA 1 (5 innings): At New Berlin, Rockman Prince doubled and finished with three RBIs and two runs in a Sangamo Conference win.

Trevor Colwell dished out two hits and two runs while Nolan Hart had two hits and two RBIs. Lucas Bixby and Jacob Roberts scored twice.

Colwell picked up the win in three innings. He allowed no hits or walks with one strikeout.

JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 7, CONCORD TRIOPIA 1: At Concord, Brady Turner fanned 10 batters and allowed just four hits, a walk and one unearned run in a complete-game victory.

He also contributed to his own cause with two hits and two RBIs. Isaac Long furnished a solo home run while Conrad Charpentier had two hits and two walks with an RBI.

ROCHESTER 18, TAYLORVILLE 4 (5 innings): At Rochester, Adan Nieves and Jorey Myren both homered and combined for eight RBIs in the nonconference win.

Myren finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs while Nieves went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs. Eli Carlson had a triple and finished with three RBIs.

Breck Calvert gave up just three hits and one walk with four strikeouts, including no runs.

LITCHFIELD 8, CARLINVILLE 1: At Litchfield, Tate Dobrinich homered and finished with two RBIs in a nonconference meeting.

Laidyn Jones chipped in two hits with an RBI in the No. 9 spot while Max Leitschuh had a triple with two RBIs and a run.

Drake Gasperson rapped out a triple for the Purple Panthers to help his cause on the mound. He struck out 10 and allowed just four hits with no walk or runs in 5 2/3 innings. Bryce Widner had two hits and a run for the Cavaliers.

RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 6, STAUNTON 2: At Raymond, Drew Gilpin, Jonah Elvidge, Lance Weitekamp and Izeck Matli each summoned two hits in the nonconference win.

Brody Lush had a hit and two RBIs. Gilpin recorded the win in six innings. He gave up one earned run on three hits and three walks with one strikeout.

MOUNT PULASKI 19, LUTHERAN 1: At Lutheran, Chance Payne went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs in the nonconference win and the Hilltoppers improved to 16-1.

Landon Smith posted two hits with three RBIs and three runs in the leadoff spot. Eric Cooper struck out seven in three innings with one run allowed on four hits and one walk.

BEARDSTOWN 7, QUINCY 6: At Quincy, Ethan Heller provided two hits with two RBIs and two runs and the Tigers eked out a nonconference win with two runs in the seventh inning.

Zach Meyer and Tanner Riddell had two hits apiece as well. Trey Riddell had a hit and scored twice.

ALTAMONT 3, NOKOMIS 2: At Altamont, Ethan Robbins hit the walk-off, 2 RBI single in the seventh inning.

Saint Newman scored twice for NHS while Izaak Doyen had two hits.

VANDALIA 9, PANA 6: Parker Moore ushered two hits with an RBI and a run in the loss for the Panthers. Blayne Pope had a hit and two RBIs.

PANA 8, VANDALIA 7: Cash Lynch totaled three hits with an RBI and run in the win for Pana. Blayne Pope chipped in a hit and two RBIs.

PAYSON SEYMOUR 8, RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 6: At Rushville, Mason Kessler and Bennett Fretueg each had two hits in the loss for the Rockets.
