Springfield burglary suspect wanted after removing ankle monitor

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Police Department are searching for a suspect connected to two recent burglaries after he removed his ankle monitor.

Avion Hunter was first arrested on March 18 after a burglary at a Subway restaurant on Linton Avenue. Springfield Police said he was found with “U.S. currency and burglary tools.” Hunter admitted to that he was behind several burglaries, and was actually on parole for burglary at the time.

Hunter was charged with three felonies then released from jail per the Pre-Trial Fairness Act.

He was arrested for a second time on April 12 after the Sangamon Avenue Hardee’s restaurant was burglarized on March 29. This time, Springfield Police placed with an ankle monitor on Hunter. He was then released from custody.

Four days later, Hunter illegally removed the device, leaving his current location unknown. Authorities have now issued a warrant for his arrest.

Springfield Police say Hunter has previous been arrested for:

  • Burglary
  • Criminal damage
  • Theft
  • Aggravated battery
  • Resisting a police officer
  • Unlawful use of a weapon
