UPDATE: Sangamon Co. Coroner identifies shooting victim

Update at 6:30 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Sangamon County Coroner has identified the man who was shot and killed in Springfield on Monday.

Coroner Jim Allmon identified him as Aaron Suttle, 47 of Springfield. Preliminary results of an autopsy performed on Tuesday indicate he died from the gunshot wound he sustained.

Meanwhile, the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office has provided more information about a suspect in the shooting. Officials said he is a Black man who was wearing black pants and a white short-sleeve t-shirt. He was last seen running toward Clearlake Avenue after the shooting.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Springfield man is dead after police found him in a vehicle with a suspected gunshot wound when responding to a shots fired call Monday evening.

At around 9:09 p.m. the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports that shots were fired at 304 North Dirksen Parkway.

When they arrived on the scene, they found a man inside a vehicle with a suspected gunshot wound. An ambulance took the man to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An unknown Black male was seen running away eastbound from the scene.
