Youth mental health and behavior presentation coming to Mead High School

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane Regional Health District will host a public event to raise awareness about risky youth behavior and mental health on Thursday.

"Hidden in Plain Sight" will take place on May 9 at Mead High School from 6 - 8 p.m.

The event will walk participants through a mock teen bedroom and try to identify over 70 items that could indicate problems or risky behaviors associated with vaping, cannabis and mental health topics.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion about local youth trends and tools to foster important family conversations.

"Knowing when children and youth are struggling or at risk can feel difficult in our rapidly changing environment,” said Amanda Dugger, Youth Cannabis and Commercial Tobacco Prevention Program coordinator at SRHD. “Our hope is that by sharing how to talk to youth about their risks and struggles, we can equip parents, caregivers, and other adults to help the young people in their lives receive the support and resources they need."

The program was also featured last year at Freeman High School, University High School and Westwood Middle School.

Attendees must be 21-years or older.
