Police to enforce rules in public parks throughout Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. -- With the weather starting to warm up, Spokane police officers will focus on enforcing rules in parks across the city.

According to SPD, there has been a recent increase in crime in city parks, including trespassing and vandalism.

Last week, SPD made arrests at Franklin and Cannon Park, while warnings and citations were handed out in other Northwest parks.

SPD said they will work closely with park rangers and continue to patrol the parks throughout the summer.

The effort is a continuation of last summer's City Council ordinance that made it a misdemeanor for people to be in a city park between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Riverfront Park is the exception, with closing hours being 12 a.m. - 6 a.m.

The law applies to all park property, including parking lots, green spaces, rivers and trails.
