Over 2,000 people attended the Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cookoff on May 4 in downtown Spartanburg, where they tasted delicious burgers created by 16 teams competing for the title of best burger.

The event featured a panel of judges who crowned the ultimate burger of 2024, but the community decided which team won the People's Choice Award.

The annual fundraiser raises money for Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas and has raised $650,000 since the event began in 2015.

The fundraiser raised $116,763.84 this year, with over 40 sponsors, 80 volunteers, and 16 teams competing.

"Despite the weather forecast, Children’s Cancer Partners’ staff set up numerous large tents and even prepared a drive-thru option," said Aly Ruggio, director of Communications and Marketing.

"The rain held off, and we enjoyed a beautiful day. We eagerly look forward to our 10th Cribbs Kitchen Burger Cook-Off next year, which we aim to make even more special for such a milestone!"

Which team had the best burger?

New Groove Artisan Brewery 's "The Jerrbear—Whiskey Bacon Onion Smash" burger won the People's Choice Award.

According to their Facebook page, their burger's ingredients included The Bread Guy's brioche, Bradford Farm's Santee sweet onions, American and pimento cheese, brown sugar whiskey bacon, quick pickles made with Red Bordner Distillery barrel moonshine and New Groove Eats South Cackalacky Sauce.

The team that won the Judges’ Choice Award, Burger She Wrote, will have their winning burger on Cribb's Kitchen's menu next year.

Burger She Wrote has competed in the annual Cribb's Burger Cookoff since 2015, and this is their first year to win.

The winning burger, "Burger on the Orient Express," contained ginger, green onion, Korean barbecue sauce, salt, crab rangoon, Asian slaw, crispy wontons, and sweet chili mayo.
