Sam Hartman did not get drafted this weekend, but it didn’t take him long to find a new home.

Hartman signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent on Saturday, hours after the draft ended.

Hartman is one of the most familiar names from this year’s draft class for football fans. He played in college for six seasons from 2018-2023 — five with Wake Forest, and last year with Notre Dame. He accumulated a ton of stats and passed for 15,656 yards, 134 touchdowns and 49 interceptions during his college career.

The feeling from many scouts was that Hartman does not have the arm strength to succeed at the NFL level, which likely explains why he went undrafted.

Washington now has No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota, Jeff Driskel, Jake Fromm and Hartman at quarterback. Hartman will likely be battling for a spot on the Commanders’ practice squad.
