Trader Joe's plans 2 new New York stores. See where they're going

Two new Trader Joe's stores are planned for New York, expanding the popular grocery chain's presence in the state. The California-based retailer announced plans this summer to open new locations in the Syracuse area and Yonkers as part of its latest nationwide expansion. The plans add to the company's growth in New York, which includes a Long Island store that opened earlier this year. The expansion comes as Trader Joe's continues to draw shoppers with its private-label products and competitively priced groceries. Where are the new Trader Joe's stores? According to Trader Joe's, the two planned stores will be located at: Camillus: 3515 W. Genesee St., in the Syracuse area. Yonkers: 2482 Central Park Ave. The Camillus store, located just west of Syracuse in Onondaga County, will be about 9,000 square feet and become the area's second Trader Joe's. The existing Syracuse-area store is at 3422 Erie Blvd. E. in DeWitt. The Yonkers location will cover about 10,000 square feet. When will the new Trader Joe's stores open? Trader Joe's has not announced opening dates for either New York location. Spokeswoman Nakia Rohde said new stores typically open within three to six months of being announced. New York heating assistance applications are open

New York households struggling with heating costs can apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program after applications opened Nov. 2. New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric are encouraging eligible customers to apply, according to a community announcement. HEAP is a federal grant program that helps eligible households with energy costs, repairs and weatherization. “We know energy costs can put pressure on household budgets, especially as we head into the winter months,” said Christine Alexander, vice president of customer service for NYSEG and RG&E. “Programs like HEAP can provide meaningful assistance to eligible customers, and we encourage anyone who may qualify to apply and take advantage of the support available to them.” Income-eligible households may receive one regular HEAP benefit per season. Eligibility and benefits depend on household income and size, the primary heating source and whether the household includes someone younger than 6, someone 60 or older or someone who is permanently disabled. Regular HEAP is scheduled to remain open through April 16, 2027. The dates could change depending on funding availability and demand.
