USFS says CEC to conduct power line vegetation management, fell about 140 trees along North Pine Street in Sisters

Sisters Tie Trail, FS Road 2058 to close periodically through June

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Vegetation management will begin next Wednesday, May 1 on about 3.5 miles of existing power line along Forest Service Road 2058, also known as North Pine Street, on the Sisters Ranger District. This section of road connects the City of Sisters with Indian Ford Road to the north.

Central Electric Cooperative is completing this ongoing maintenance to ensure reliable electricity for the greater Sisters area. Additionally, right of way clearing can mitigate sources of wildfire ignition and improve CEC worker safety.

Vegetation management along this section of power line will include felling about 140 trees within 10 feet of the power transmission line corridor. In addition, trees along the corridor may be trimmed and hazard trees outside the 10-foot corridor may be felled. Hazard identification includes trees or branches with the potential to come in contact with the line.

CEC will use existing roads and incorporate protection measures to minimize impacts to sensitive natural resources. Felled trees may be used as firewood or sold as other forest products.

The Sisters Tie Trail (Trail #4092) and Forest Service Road 2058 (North Pine Street) will be periodically closed during May and June while work is occurring. Trail closure signs will be posted at the trailhead and along the trail. These closures are in place to protect both public and worker safety.

CEC is authorized to manage trees and vegetation within and adjacent to the powerline ROW on National Forest lands. Minimum clearance standards are set by the National Electrical Safety Code and Public Utility Commission.
