SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A trio of design options for the upcoming Gordon Drive viaduct project have been approved by Sioux City council members.

One option was the Cunningham Drive three-lane alignment featuring a reconstruction from Gordon Drive to Leech Avenue. The design incorporates three lanes, 12-foot driving lanes with a14-foot shared left turn lane.

Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) officials said a second option would better serve traffic along Leech and Dace Avenue from Floyd to Lewis Boulevard, allowing for 12-foot driving lanes and a 14-foot shared left turn lane.

A third option would provide a cul-de-sac for a part of Leech Avenue near Wilson Trailer.

It could be several months before a final design is agreed on. Construction on the 3,900-foot long viaduct isn’t scheduled to begin until 2028.
