SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A Nebraska man was sentenced on May 7 in federal court in Sioux City.

Calvin Wright, 33, of Creighton, Nebraska, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to a press release.

Evidence at the plea and sentencing hearings showed that on July 5, 2023, in Sioux City, law enforcement stopped a vehicle in which Wright was a passenger. Based on suspicious activity, a K-9 was deployed and indicated the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle. In a backpack that had been between Wright’s legs in the vehicle, law enforcement found about 95 grams of pure methamphetamine, scales, and drug paraphernalia.

The release revealed Wright was previously convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine in 2016 in Nebraska.

Wright was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and a 10-year supervised release following imprisonment.

Wright remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
