Officials also say that the protected slot limit on walleyes is 19 to 25 inches, along with only one walleye more than 25 inches allowed a day.

The daily limit for fishers are three walleyes with a possession limit of six. The walleye season at those lakes runs from the first Saturday in May through February 14th each year.

There will also be the 42nd annual Iowa Great Lakes Walleye Fishing Contest in conjunction with opening weekend for walleye fishing. That event is scheduled for midnight on May 4th until midnight on the 5th.

The contest has a grand prize worth $42,000 if someone can catch 1 of 10 specialty tagged walleye.
