Calera falls short of state tournament after advancing to final game of regionals
MONTGOMERY – The Calera Eagles put up a strong battle in the Class 6A Central Regional tournament but ultimately fell just a win shy of qualifying for the state tournament. The Eagles won both of their games on Monday, May 6 at Lagoon Park in Montgomery behind an 11-3 win over the Pelham Panthers and a 2-1 victory over the Hillcrest Patriots before falling 6-3 to the Helena Huskies and 2-1 to Hillcrest on the final day on Tuesday, May 7.

AHSAA Baseball Semis: Central-Phenix City, American Christian sweep into finals
Fourth-ranked Central-Phenix City swept No. 3 Auburn 11-6, 10-1 on Wednesday to return to the Class 7A championship series for the third straight season. FLORENCE – The defending Class 7A state champions will be back at the high school state softball tournament next week. Hewitt-Trussville finished as the top qualifier earlier this week in the 7A North Regional, played at the Florence Sportsplex on Monday. Spain Park was the second qualifying team and will be back at state after missing out last year.
