ALABASTER – After months of development, Larry Simmons Stadium in Alabaster has reopened for visitors to take advantage of its walking and jogging track.

The city of Alabaster reopened Larry Simmons Stadium after roughly nine months of construction on Thursday, May 9.

“It’s awesome to see because it’s been such a staple in the community for so many years,” said Neal Wagner, public relations manager for the city of Alabaster. “There’s a lot of history there in the stadium and with this project we really tried to keep the history in place there.”

The city worked to give the local landmark a facelift with various improvements including a new entryway and renovations to the field house which were handled by Wrappermike in Alabaster. The field house features the city’s logo and branding as well as the phrase “home of the warriors.”

“We’re really excited for this next football season to be able to host the entire program there and have really nice new restrooms and ticket booths and concessions stands,” Wagner said.

Wagner said the primary use for the stadium going forward will be for the city’s youth football and cheerleading programs which are currently open for registration until May 27.

‘We’re really excited to offer this for the community,” Wagner said. “It’s been a long time coming and I know that a lot of people are excited to come and experience it.”

The walking track will be open daily from sunrise to 11 p.m. and lights will be on from sunset to 11 p.m.

The city requests that visitors park in the new parking lot adjacent to Thompson Road and use the stadium’s main arched entryway to access the stadium. Restroom facilities are available near the main entrance.

The city also shared that the football field is currently for use by permit only. Alabaster  noted that all public areas of the stadium are under video surveillance like other park facilities and the city will prosecute anyone who vandalizes city property.
