Major drug trafficking ring busted in St. Louis: 13 arrested
Thirteen people accused of involvement in a conspiracy to sell drugs including fentanyl and methamphetamine in the St. Louis area were arrested this week. The final defendant was arrested Thursday in Miami. The final St. Louis defendants pleaded not guilty to their charges Wednesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. Others were arrested in Texas and California.
Former ISP trooper postpones hearing
A former Illinois State Trooper who pleaded guilty to reckless homicide for his role in a high-speed 2007 crash that killed teenage sisters from Collinsville has requested a delay in the hearing on whether his driving privileges should be restored. Capitol News Illinois reports former Trooper Matt Mitchell asked for more time to prepare for the hearing that was originally set for Wednesday in Mount Vernon.
41-year-old man found dead in Washington Park, Illinois, early Wednesday morning
WASHINGTON PARK, Illinois — An investigation is underway after a 41-year-old man was found shot dead in St. Clair County early Wednesday morning. A trooper with Illinois State Police said the incident happened at about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 5700 block of Westmoreland Avenue in Washington Park. A 41-year-old man was found dead as a result of gunfire. Police did not release the victim's name.
Police identify driver killed after crashing into Target in Brentwood
BRENTWOOD, Mo. — One person died Wednesday morning after crashing into the Target store at Brentwood Promenade. The fatal crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Brentwood shopping center. The driver was the only occupant at the time of the crash. The victim was identified Wednesday evening as 21-year-old Tegan Donato from south St. Louis.
Collinsville driver high on marijuana during fatal crash gets 10 years in prison
EDWARDSVILLE —A driver who had cannabis in his system when he caused a crash that killed a 45-year-old Highland woman was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison. Wayne A. Stayton, 41, of Collinsville, was found guilty of aggravated DUI in a June jury trial. Madison County prosecutors argued he was high on marijuana on the early morning of Feb. 23, 2018, when his pickup crossed the center line of U.S. 40 in Highland and crashed into a truck driven by Charlene Johnson.

Body found in an East St. Louis park Monday
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — The body of a Fairview Heights man was found in Jones Park Monday morning. Police say the man died from gunshot wounds. Illinois State Police were called to the 2500 block of Argonne Drive at around 9 a.m. Monday. A park employee told police that there was a suspicious vehicle there.
