SHELBY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A woman has died after being shot Monday night, according to the Shelby Police Department.

Around 7:45 p.m. on Monday, May 6, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Live Oak Street.

When they arrived, 62-year-old Sarah Chambers was lying in the front yard suffering from a gunshot wound, officials said. She was transported to a local hospital by first responders from Cleveland County. Police say she died at the hospital.

The initial investigation revealed there was an altercation that led to gunshots, however, Chambers was not involved in that altercation.

Police say no arrests have been made but the investigation is active. Anyone with information is asked to call the Shelby Police Department at 704-484-6845 or Cleveland County Crime Stoppers at 704-481-TIPS.
