SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Schenectady couple thought a new guardrail and crosswalk, installed in January, would keep speeding drivers on King’s Road from crashing onto their property. On Saturday, a driver made their way past two barriers and hit the couples backyard fence.

Now they have renewed calls for the city to address the speeding concerns on King’s Road.

Tracey Collins and his wife Holli were drinking coffee Saturday morning when it happened, again. They heard a loud boom and it shook their home. It was the 8th vehicle to crash onto this property since the house was built in 2006.

“We are devastated. We do not sleep at night, wondering are we going to be the next fatality on this street? All we are asking the city to do is step up and do the right thing,” said Collins.

The right thing, according to him, would be installing stop signs. This crash happened one year and one week after the last. In 2023 Collins said his gas meter was narrowly missed. National Grid told him it could’ve been fatal.

“We do appreciate the guardrail but unfortunately the car went around the guardrail this time and did a lot more damage than the last person,” said Collins.

Collins said there was so much damage this time detectives came out and collected evidence. City leaders acknowledge speeding is an issue throughout the city but Engineer Chris Wallin said King’s Road has been one of the worst areas.

He and Mayor Gary McCarthy did not want to talk to us on camera, before having the chance to review the police report. But Wallin said once they review information from the latest accident they will look into other traffic safety measures. Collins hopes it will happen sooner than later.

“Somebody’s going to have to die before the city says ok we need to do something seriously about this road,” said Collins.
