Firearm and 2 loaded magazines found in traffic stop in Santa Rosa

( KRON ) — Police located a privately manufactured firearm in a car that a 17-year-old Santa Rosa resident was driving, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Santa Rosa police officers conducted a traffic stop on a BMW in the area of Dutton Avenue and Sebastopol Road. Police said the BMW had "excessive window tint" and an expired registration. The officers said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle.

The officer noticed loose-leaf marijuana on the floorboard, police said. This prompted the officers to conduct a vehicle search. The search yielded a bag concealed under the driver's seat that consisted of a privately manufactured firearm and two loaded magazines containing 21 9mm rounds. Police said the driver admitted he possessed the gun.

The driver was identified as a 17-year-old Santa Rosa resident.

The teenager was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall for possessing a concealed firearm in a vehicle, possessing a loaded firearm and being a minor in possession of a firearm.
