Winter in the Wasatch is coming to a close and I am loving all the end-of-season reflections as people think back about the 2023/2024 season. Dedicated to supporting women and girls in sports, SheJumps hosted an event at Alta Ski Area this past season and just shared a lovely reflection from one of the days. It's certainly worth a read!

Caption: "POWDER DAY! Day three of SheJumps Into the Canyon brought a full powder day experience for the participants. After our newcomers lapped the tow rope and our more seasoned participants lapped the lodge lift, a few chose to head inside for some warmth and hot chocolate, while others insisted on more laps. Soon after, they met with their instructors and divided into groups. The visibility may have been low, but the spirits were high! Our more advanced group was eager to head up Sunnyside lift, while our newcomers were pushing new challenges, one turn at a time.

After weeks of continuous snow, we did not know if we were going to greet the sun. But to our surprise, our last day of the program brought on spring skiing at full force. Layers were shed, sunscreen was applied and most importantly, we all glittered up to celebrate the completion of this year’s program. After the quickest lunch was had, everyone geared up to maximize their time on snow, and wow was it slushy! We all headed back to the grill to shed additional layers, rehydrate, and welcome our guest speaker Andria Huskinson as she shared her experience of growing in the sport and her trajectory from athlete to Communications Manager at Alta before they met up with their instructors one last time.

By the end of the day, our newcomers were lapping the lodge lift, with some even graduating to the “big lift” group. Some even venturing into tree runs and trying small jumps! But soon it was time to say goodbye to their mentors, instructors, and their new friends, and head home, but not before sharing their excitement about coming back next year.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this year’s program a reality: @altaskiarea for the support since the program’s early days, the amazing ski school instructors, @hc4yf, @evosaltlake and @wild_rye_ for your gear donations, as well as our transportation services and the drivers at @alta.shuttle and @alpinetransportation, our volunteer photographers, and of course our volunteers.

    Thanks for the reflections, Dioné!
