It's a little tricky to get to Town Neck Beach in Sandwich these days.

According to a recent Facebook post from the Sandwich Recreation Department, "both the sand pathway and stairway over to Town Neck Beach are currently closed due to the sand refurbishment project and storm-related problems, in addition to the continued work on the Boardwalk."

"We are working on a solution," said David DeConto, Sandwich Natural Resources Department director.

DeConto said storm-caused erosion had left a six-to-eight-foot sheer drop-off between the end of the sand path and the beach. The path had provided access to the beach from the Town Neck Beach parking lot.

DeConto said the Sandwich Boardwalk reconstruction project was expected to be finished in the near future, restoring the stairway access to Town Neck Beach.

But there are still ways to get to Town Neck Beach for folks who don't mind walking a bit. DeConto said access is available from First Beach, at the east end of the Cape Cod Canal and added that there are two public access points off Freeman Avenue.
