    Suspect in SF hit-and-run rampage identified

    SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — A suspect in a double hit-and-run who led police on a wild pursuit through the streets of San Francisco Tuesday has been identified. Jefferson Rodney, 54, was the man behind the wheel of a blue and white Mustang GT coupe who struck two pedestrians before finally being stopped, according to police.

    According to jail records, Rodney was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of:

    • Leaving the scene of an accident — 2 counts
    • Evading an officer with willful disregard
    • Unsafe speed
    • Failure to stop before crosswalk
    • Failure to stop at red light
    • Reckless driving

    Rodney, according to police, struck a pedestrian in the area of Jones and Market streets shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday. The pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

    A short while later, he failed to yield to officers near Leavenworth and Eddy streets.

    He then led police on a pursuit, during which he struck a middle school student who was in a crosswalk on her way to school. The student, a 14-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital with a fractured shoulder and ankle. The is in stable condition, according to the San Francisco Unified School District.

    Police canceled the pursuit due to safety concerns. Rodney was eventually taken into custody at Green and Embarcadero streets near KRON4’s news station.
