    As our older adult population increases in San Antonio — with 14.2% of the city being over the age of 65 in 2020 — it’s best to know what the city offers for its seasoned folk. Let’s introduce you to the Senior Services Division .

    What is the Senior Services Division?

    In a quick summary, this division of our local Human Services Department provides resources for older San Antonians to live active, healthy, independent, and engaged lifestyles.

    Over the age of 60? Take a trip to the latest senior center at Walker Ranch.

    To access these benefits, you must be 60 years and older + a resident of Bexar County. If you check off those boxes, go ahead and apply online for free. Here are a few programs the department offers:
    • Rental + mortgage assistance
    • COVID-19 testing

    What does Senior Services offer?

    The senior nutrition program gives older adults a nutritionally-balanced lunch while mingling with other people at senior centers. The majority of these centers operate Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free for those 60+.

    Pro tip: You can see the meal schedule ahead of time to see if anything catches your fancy.

    Don’t know where to find your nearest senior center? This easy tool lists each center by city district. If transportation is an issue and you live within a five-mile radius of a senior branch, call 210-207-7172, Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to get picked up for free.
