SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — The Sherwood Commons shopping center is home to a variety of businesses, ranging from sports bars to opticians and sushi restaurants. But did you know that one of its stores is actually three shops in one?

The storefront, located at 3230 Sherwood Way, is home to three businesses: Pixel Junkie, a video game shop; Spellbound Cards and Games, a trading card store; and ThreadPix, a vintage T-shirt and vinyl record seller. The trio opened the business on April 19 with the goal of becoming a sanctuary for the gaming and pop culture fans of the Concho Valley.

“There’s a community for you around these nerdy sub-cultures in somewhere like San Angelo,” Kamron Culp, co-owner of Pixel Junkie, said. “We’re all a part of those communities, so this whole store is, from the ground up, built with local communities in mind.”

Since then, the store has continued to sell all kinds of merchandise. Video games from the retro era line shelves alongside modern titles, cards from popular trading card games fill cases and vintage shirts hang from ranks for shoppers to browse.

“Even in the four weeks that we’ve been open now, we’ve seen great success,” Culp said.

The business collective has also partnered with the community on several occasions. Pixel Junkie has worked alongside gaming clubs at Angelo State University in the past, Spellbound continues to host tournaments for several card games and ThreadPix is making plans to sell shirts for local bands.

“I just want a place that appeals to everyone, is something that everyone can enjoy and is a comfortable place for people to come and hang out,” Orion Christian Gonzales, co-owner of Spellbound, said. “

The store is approaching its one-month anniversary, and it has thus far shown no signs of stopping. Whether you’re a gamer, a trading card enthusiast or a vintage fashion fan, the partnership means that fun times are in the cards for the geeks of San Angelo.

“San Angelo desperately needs cool stuff for nerds to do, and there’s not a lot of it,” Culp said. “We really want to hone in on that. We’re massive nerds, and we want to do what we can to build those communities up.”
