Hundreds of items from former Greensburg state prison up for online auction
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- From tools to steel bars, there's an online auction going on right now featuring items from the former state prison in Greensburg.There are more than 600 items available in the auction and some of the items with the most bids so far include a vinyl shed, a machinery sign.The highest bids for those items are currently less than $20.Perhaps you're doing a bathroom renovation and you're tight on space. If that's the case and you're interested, stainless steel sink/toilet combinations are an option.Right now they're cheap, with the starting bid at just $5. The online auction will run through May 21 and if you do purchase any items, they must be picked up in person.
Westmoreland Heritage Trail Poker Run set for next month
Westmoreland Heritage Trail officials will host their annual festival and poker run June 1 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Murrysville. Each participant in the poker run will stop at five checkpoints along the trail to choose a playing card. At the end of the event, participants will have a complete poker hand, with the best hands receiving prizes for first, second and third place. It is not a race. Participants can choose an 8-mile bicycle ride or 4-mile (round-trip) walk to the checkpoints.
Hempfield Area student's art exhibit focuses on family, culture
When Hempfield Area senior Emily Flores’ grandmother died in 2022, she wanted to find a way to honor her memory. “(Her death) really dug deep into my heart,” said Flores, 18. “I really thought about my childhood with her, and about my culture, and I wanted to take her with me along my journey in art, along with my high school career and hopefully later on in life, for her to be there for the things that she will miss.”

Avian admirers in southwestern Pennsylvania will mark World Migratory Bird Day on Saturday. In Westmoreland County, the Westmoreland Bird and Nature Club is encouraging residents to take part in the Global Big Day, hosted by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and its eBird app. Participants are asked to observe and record the birds they see in their backyard (or wherever they happen to be) using the free eBird app. Several reports can be made throughout the day.
