Alon Shaya's new casual restaurant opens in Lakeview. Here's a first look inside
Pita is a central part of the menu at Safta’s Table, a new Mediterranean restaurant from Alon Shaya. Hot from the oven, which is visible just over the counter, it might go with a hummus plate or mezze sampler of dips and pickles, just like it does at the chef’s upscale New Orleans restaurant Saba.

St. Tammany parties all month for St. Patrick's Day
UP CLOSE: Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter-storyteller Kray Van Kirk, on tour promoting his new CD, “Empire,” will entertain at the Lobby Lounge in Slidell on March 19. While his earlier work focused on traditional folk Americana with Celtic roots and plenty of myths, the new music shifts directions “and brings myth into the daylight” by looking at 500 years of history and how Americans deal with anger, justice and renewal. The Lobby Lounge is a bohemian-styled music listening room created to bring nationally touring artists to the Harbor Center for monthly “Up Close and Musical” concerts like this one in a smaller, intimate venue. The music starts at 7 p.m. at 100 Harbor Center Blvd. Get tickets at Eventbrite.com.
