ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis City prosecutors filed to drop a robbery case against Daniel Riley Thursday morning, nearly one month removed from being sentenced to nearly 19 years for his part in causing the crash that took the legs of Janae Edmundson.

Riley was violating the conditions of his house arrest bond stemming from the robbery case at the time of the crash.

Thursday morning, St. Louis City prosecutors have dropped the robbery case, electing not to move forward. Riley was accused of robbing the son of a former St. Louis police sergeant of a handgun.

Speaking with KMOX, Riley's attorney Daniel Diemer was thankful Gabe Gore dropped the case.

"I just appreciate the fact that Mr. Gore gave it due consideration and we truly appreciate his kindness in dismissing the charges."

Diemer says he wasn't given a reason from Gore as to why he elected to drop the case. Diemer adds there are a number of many reasons he believes the case was dropped.

"I think it's possible that they may have considered that the other two codefendants have already pleaded guilty to lesser charges and were placed on probation, but there are any number of reasons why they may have [dropped the case]."

KMOX contacted a spokesperson for St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore for comment but he declined.

In 2022, prosecutors dropped the case against Riley while under former Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner because they were not ready to prosecute.
