Woodburn celebrates Cinco de Mayo
With May 5 turning up on a Sunday this year, the 16th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration in Woodburn kicked things off on Friday, May 3, making way for a three-day celebration. Woodburn High School Mariachi band warmed things up at the Chemeketa Woodburn annex, where multiple civic and educational leaders addressed a healthy turnout that consisted largely of are k-12 students. Those on hand to christen the event with quick, appreciative orations included Chemeketa Board member Diane Watson; Chemeketa President Jessica Howard; Woodburn Mayor Frank Lonergan; Woodburn School District Superintendent Juan Larios; State Rep. Clackamas County Tourism gives $600K to initiatives throughout county
The Clackamas County Tourism Network recently granted just over $600,000 to eight different initiatives meant to spur tourism and enhance visitors’ experience throughout the county. Estacada Fire Department seeks support volunteers
The Estacada Rural Fire District is recruiting members for its support team. “Support team members play a critical role in our department by responding to incidents to support firefighter rehab, supporting our firefighters on the training grounds and managing our special events with preparation and take down,” the department said in an announcement. Support service members attend monthly trainings, receive Length of Service Awards, will be trained in CPR and first aid and much more, according to the announcement. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, a high school graduate or equivalent, be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check and other conditions.
