    Woodburn celebrates Cinco de Mayo

    With May 5 turning up on a Sunday this year, the 16th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration in Woodburn kicked things off on Friday, May 3, making way for a three-day celebration.

    Woodburn High School Mariachi band warmed things up at the Chemeketa Woodburn annex, where multiple civic and educational leaders addressed a healthy turnout that consisted largely of are k-12 students. Those on hand to christen the event with quick, appreciative orations included Chemeketa Board member Diane Watson; Chemeketa President Jessica Howard; Woodburn Mayor Frank Lonergan; Woodburn School District Superintendent Juan Larios; State Rep. Tracy Cramer and U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas.
