    Medical Examiner: St. Albans woman’s death ruled ‘self-inflicted’

    UPDATE: (5:18 P.M. Friday, May 17) – The West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled a woman found shot in St. Albans died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

    UPDATE: (4:22 p.m. Thursday, May 16) – The St. Albans Police Department is releasing new details in a shooting that left a woman dead in St. Albans.

    According to the St. Albans PD, the shooting happened in the 500 block of Drew Street just before 11 a.m. Thursday. Responding officers said Metro 911 dispatchers told them the caller had heard a “loud noise” but was uncertain if it had been a gunshot.

    The SAPD says they were then told a woman had suffered a gunshot wound. They say when they arrived on scene, they attempted life-saving measures, but the woman died at the scene. Initial information from the scene said that the woman had been found dead.

    The woman’s body has been taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation, and her identity has not been released at this time.

    Police say the incident was isolated and there is no danger to the public. The investigation is ongoing.


    UPDATE: (1:58 p.m. Thursday, May 16) – A woman is dead after a shooting in St. Albans.

    According to authorities, multiple neighbors called 911 regarding an alleged domestic disturbance on Drew Street just before 11 a.m. Thursday. Police say when they arrived, they found a deceased female who had been shot in the head.

    Law enforcement tell WOWK 13 News three young children were home at the time of the shooting. Police say the father of one of the children is being questioned and is cooperating with authorities.

    The St. Albans Police Department is leading the investigation.
