    Man arrested after shooting on Valley View Ave in Russell

    RUSSELL, Mass. (WWLP) – Police are investigating in Russell after a shooting victim arrived at Baystate Noble Hospital Thursday night.

    According to a news release from Russell – Montgomery Police Department, at around 9 p.m. Baystate Noble Hospital notified police that a shooting victim was taken to the Emergency Department by a family member. Police determined that an incident occurred on Valley View Ave in Russell a short time earlier.

    When police arrived at Valley View Ave, they found a man in the area with a handgun and was detained. During the investigation, it was determined he allegedly shot the victim and was taken into custody. Multiple firearms found inside a vehicle were seized.

    Police say the suspect and victim knew each other and the shooting occurred as a result of an altercation between them. Shortly after police left the area, they received reports of a group of people fighting at the same location.

    Officers from Russell – Montgomery Police and Massachusetts State Police arrived and separated all parties. While paramedics treated a woman who required medical attention, officers dispersed the group of people who did not live there.

    The man who was shot was transferred to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, there is no information on the status of their condition at this time.
