(FOX40.COM) — A man’s body found near a Rocklin intersection Thursday morning was that of an off-duty police officer with the Sacramento Police Dept., that agency said shortly after noon.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of one of our own, Officer Daniel Bartlett,” the department said in a statement.

Investigators with the Rocklin Police Department told FOX40.com that there are no signs of foul play and it appears Bartlett died of natural causes while on a walk near his home.

Rocklin Police had responded to the intersection of University Ave. and Larkspur Drive, just north of William Jessup University, after 6 a.m. for a call about an unresponsive man in the roadway.

Fire officials who responded found that the man had passed.

The Sacramento Police Dept. said Bartlett was 30 years old, had been an officer with the agency for over four years, and leaves behind a wife and young child.

A statement from Chief Kathy Lester said, “Daniel was a kind individual, friend, and officer who exemplified the values of this organization…his passing was unexpected and an extremely tragic loss to our department, community and family. My sincere and deepest condolences go out to the Bartlett family, friends and teammates during this difficult time.”
