OBITUARY: Gary Hooks
By Harrington Funeral Home,
George “Gary” Hooks, 68, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
He was born May 3, 1955, in Anson County, son of the late George L. Hooks and Cleva Mae Jordan Hooks.
Gary was a loving husband, dad and granddad. He loved his family with every fiber of his being and was a friend to everybody he met.
Gary was employed at Clark Equipment until their closing and spent the rest of his career as a tool maker at INA Bearing, retiring in 2021. After retiring, he spent his days working on small engines. His love of tinkering led to the opening of Outback Small Engines. People always came in as customers and left as friends. Nobody was a stranger. On his days off, he could normally be found relaxing on the couch with his neck pillow watching “NCIS” reruns. He loved fishing and when he traveled, it was usually straight to Cherry Grove.
Gary embodied love; he was patient and kind and never shied away from showing those attributes to his family and friends. Above all, Gary knew the Lord and is with Him now.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Cleva Mae Hooks.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Helen Caulder Hooks of the home; children, Tery Hooks and Mindy Hooks Shaw (Randy), both of Rockingham; grandchildren, Morgan Hooks, Marley Hooks, Ethan Wilks Locklear, Mavery Hooks and Parker Shaw; and numerous extended family that loved him.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, Rockingham, with the Rev. David Lee and Speaker Robert Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the family home, Battley Dairy Road, Rockingham.
Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Hooks family.
