    Honor Flight sends 61 veterans to D.C. on Memorial Day weekend

    ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Honor Flight Rochester Mission 83 flew 61 veterans to Washington, D.C. on Saturday to visit the memorials for the wars they served in. On Sunday, members of the Rochester community gathered at the Frederick Douglass International Airport to welcome the veterans back to Rochester.

    This past weekend’s flight included one World War II veteran, four Korean War veterans, four Cold War veterans, nine Cold War/ Vietnam War veterans, and 43 Vietnam War veterans.

    Their branches of service are: Army (21), Navy (19), Marines (7) and Air Force (14).

    Since 2008, including Mission 83, HFR has flown flown 4,178 veterans funded through the generosity of the community including organizations, corporations, individuals, hundreds of volunteers and testamentary bequests. This was the second flight of six missions this year.

    Christian Garzone with the Veterans Outreach Center emceed the event and Tim Vaughan, Col, USAF/NYANG, was the keynote speaker.
