ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Rochester man who admitted to throwing a firework at police officers during a 2020 protest demanding justice for Daniel Prude pleaded guilty Friday, after assaulting two officers in the Livingston County Jail.

JohnMichael Santiago, 24, threw a lit firework toward a line of Rochester police officers on September 4, 2020 . Prosecutors said he confessed later, while speaking to police about the incident.

Santiago was arrested, charged with civil disorder, and taken to the Livingston County Jail. In March, 2023 , he threw a cup at one jail officer and punched another in the face, injuring two officers attempting to stop him.

Santiago pleaded guilty Friday to civil disobedience for his actions at the protest, and to assaulting federal officers for his actions in the jail. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when sentenced in September.
