ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Celebrations are under way as the Genesee Valley Park golf course is opening a new Calvin Peete Pitch and Putt facility, and to celebrate they held a ceremonial first putt.

The practice area is designated as a space where beginners of any age can practice golf on a completely synthetic turf course. Officials say this is all about inclusion, making golf more accessible to underserved communities, and getting more people involved in the game.

This was made possible by PGA Reach, which donated $250,000 that was matched by Monroe County. The Genesee Valley golf course dates back to 1899, and is one of the longest running public golf courses in the country.
